Lossless audio demand «lossless» processing. Many serious processings is not «lossless», unfortunately. Sample rate conversion (bit-depth also) is not «lossless» also. Exact instrument wanted.
Sample rate conversion (SRC) is utilized for:
- converting HD audio (DVD-audio, FLAC) with high sampling rates to CD for listening on hi-end car audio or to files with admissible sample rate for portable audio;
- preparations for publication of recording studio release (48-192 kHz) on CD-audio (44.1 kHz) or DVD. Also for selling your music with different recording formats by way of online stores;
- eliminating of audible intermodulations. HD-audio files contains ultrasound which shifts down to audible range (hear as noise and whistle) for equipment with non-ideal non-linearity;
- normalizing divergent audio files to uniform sampling rate/bit-depth for work in midi/audio editor (DAW);

is amount per second of samples (momental measurements) of analog signal's values. Sequence of the measured values contains in audio file. This sequence named digital signal.
